Activity in State, Regional, and National Networking – Where UM Fits In
The state of physical networking and the services obtainable over the network continues to evolve rapidly. I’ll provide some high level background on what “the internet” (AKA “the network”) really is, namely a collection of different “open” and “closed” networks. I’ll illustrate that with examples of how students and staff at the four campuses of the University of Montana use “the internet” in different ways to communicate with different people at different places. Then I’ll give some examples of some networking projects I’ve worked and am working on now as a Computer Science professor “temporarily” serving as UM’s Chief Information & Technology Officer.
